How early should you book travel vaccines?

Most travel vaccines need time to work, and some come as a course. Here is a simple timeline for planning your appointment.

As a rule of thumb, book your travel appointment six to eight weeks before you fly. That gives your immune system time to respond, and leaves room for vaccines that need more than one dose.

Some courses, rabies and hepatitis B, for example, are given over several weeks. If your trip is sooner than that, accelerated schedules are often possible, so it is still worth booking.

Last-minute traveller? Come in anyway. Our pharmacists can prioritise the vaccines that matter most for your destination and advise on malaria tablets, insect bite avoidance and food and water hygiene.
